A Great Resource in a Great City

Parkinsons’s Community Fitness (PCF) produced this great video to introduce folks to what they do. For just a little more than a year PCF has provided exercise and fitness classes aimed specifically toward Parkinson’s patients. Membership is very reasonable and the founders of PCF intend to maintain that low cost.

Currently they are running a campaign to raise $150k to operate in their current space in Blue Ash on Kenwood road. Please consider donating to keep them operating. If you are a Facebook fan they are here.

If you have Parkinson’s disease or you are a care giver to someone with Parkinson’s disease you know two things; moving as much as you are able mitigates the disease symptoms and movement becomes very hard. Just sitting is much easier.

Cheryl and I have been dealing with PD for about fourteen years. PD has a very slow progression cycle in her but in others it progresses rapidly. There is no cure. The MD’s do not know what causes it. Their fancy word is idiopathic. What is known , however, is that simple exercise, dance, walking, drumming and movement mitigates symptoms.

Parkinson Community Fitness has made a big difference in our life and for that we will be eternally grateful.

Allan Alda said on Twitter … I decided to let people know I have Parkinson’s to encourage others to take action. I was Diagnosed 3 and a half years ago, but my life is full. I act, I give talks, I do my podcast, which I love. If you get a diagnosis, keep moving!

Even if you do not have PD – Keep Moving!
